01Starting point
“Can I see it from here tonight?” – the Milky Way, the moon, an aurora, the meteors. The answer depends on place, time, moonlight and clouds. Star charts do not know the clouds, weather apps do not know the stars.
02Approach
- 01The sky at your location drawn in the browser, with horizon, compass directions and a timeline for the whole night.
- 02“Explore freely”: drag up to the zenith, travel in time from noon to noon, search, fact sheets, layers, night vision and motion sensor.
- 03Hourly cloud cover from MOSMIX, moon phase and darkness calculated – combined into the “tonight” observing plan.
- 04Dedicated pages for sun, moon, aurora, meteor showers, eclipses and dark-sky places.
- 05Open data with clean licences: star catalogue and deep-sky objects under CC BY-SA, places from GeoNames.
03Outcome
Himmelszeile is online at himmelszeile.de: one question, one reasoned answer – and a sky to get lost in.
