01Starting point
People moving into a German transfer company first ask: what is left of my severance pay – and when? The honest answer depends on the one-fifth rule, tax class, church tax, the month of leaving and later unemployment benefit. Since 2025 the one-fifth rule only applies via the tax return, no longer at payout.
02Approach
- 01The calculation in three visible steps: payout by the employer, refund via the tax return, final net – every line expandable.
- 02Two directions: “gross known” or “target net”; salary as annual or monthly gross, the other is derived.
- 03The same verified tax engine as in our Rechnerzentrale, with tests for every formula.
- 04“Share link” puts every input into the address – for advice sessions and follow-up questions. Printing produces a two-page PDF with all calculation steps.
- 05A standalone page without ads, without tracking and not listed in search engines; usable with keyboard and screen reader.
03Outcome
The calculator is in use at the transfer company. At the client’s request we added annual gross salary – without changing a single calculation step.
